Arthur Jacob - July - September, 2009 Our Featured Artist for the A.R.T. evolution - Thanks Arthur!
Harold Rosenberg defined the Abstract Expressionist’s canvas as an “arena to act in.” My intent is to give the observer the knowledge of what the real life image is, and then through abstraction and reconstruction of that image, invite the observer to act in that arena; and to explore the infinite possibilities that each abstraction and reconstruction presents. The use of color, form and balance reveal much about me as an artist and person. Color depicts emotions. Lines, that are either gently wavy or sharply spiked, become the attitude in my work.
Photography has always been a primary interest of mine.As an artist I initially strove to develop my skills along traditional paths that included product and portrait work. However, for the most part I was never satisfied. My abstractions and reconstructions began their transformation with a mistake. While touching up an image, I inadvertently hit the wrong button and a beautiful face melted before me and changed my artistic focus forever.Hopefully my commitment to the making of fine art is seen not as using a brush, but using a mouse.

Up until 2000 I was involved professionally with a number of creative positions including Director of Marketing for several healthcare organizations and the publisher of a mid-sized publishing house in Minneapolis, MN.As publisher I was fortunate to work with a number of authors, among them most notably Captain Kangaroo who was as kind off-stage as he was on television. In 2000 I decided to devote my energies to photography. After living in Las Vegas for several years, my partner and I, and our cat “Pearl” decided to move to the west coast of Oregon and then one year later to Portland, where we now reside.
